About me

In the course of our lives, occasions will inevitably arise when we need to seek additional help to navigate challenges, enhance our professional capabilities, improve our quality of life through meaningful connections, or attain our personal aspirations.

As a Specialist Occupational Therapist with over 5 years of experience working in London NHS mental health services, I have helped clients with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and psychosis.

As a Hypnotherapist, I specialise in anxiety-related issues such as social anxiety, confidence issues, public speaking difficulties, and imposter syndrome, utilising a gentle and calming hypnotherapy approach. I embrace a tranquil and solution-oriented approach which includes cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness and hypnosis to support you in reaching your desired goals.

About Hypnotherapy

  • I specialise in using Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, a cutting edge, evidence based type of Hypnotherapy, combining the use of cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness techniques with hypnosis.

  • The combined approach of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy treatment has shown to produce more effective and long-lasting results than each treatment used alone.

  • Typically, people see results within 4-6 weeks. However this can be shorter or longer depending on the specific issue you are hoping to address.

  • I am keen for you to experience the positive changes of therapy as soon as possible, therefore I will support you to accelerate your treatment outcomes by providing helpful tasks to practice in between sessions.

  • Equally, I will provide you with the tools and skills to change your response in future situations.

  • Each person is unique and experiences symptoms in different ways, therefore I offer a personalised approach, tailoring each session to your individual needs to help you to see the changes you desire.

What is Hypnosis?

  • Hypnosis uses naturally occurring psychological and physiological states to bring about positive change in your behaviour, thoughts and emotions.

  • We all experience these naturally occurring hypnotic states in our daily lives, which can be described as similar to that of daydreaming or when we are engrossed in a book.

  • It is in these states that our unconscious mind becomes more attuned and amenable to the information it is receiving.

  • Hypnotherapy is a safe and highly effective treatment, which accesses these naturally occurring states, and guides clients to use their imagination to bring about positive thoughts and emotions and rehearse behaviour change.

Anxiety and Stress

We all experience anxiety and stress at different points throughout our lives, however some people experience this more severely than others.

When you feel anxious, your brain triggers the ‘fight, flight, or freeze’ responses which is like an built-in alarm system in your body and mind. It's your brain's way of warning you about potential dangers or threats. When you feel anxious, it's as if your brain is saying, "pay attention! Something might go wrong, and you need to be ready.”

This warning system can be helpful in certain situations, like crossing a busy street. However, for some people, this alarm system can become too sensitive and start going off even when there's no immediate danger. It's like having a smoke detector that beeps loudly when you're just cooking. In anxiety, your body and mind react as if there's an emergency, even when there isn't one.

Common signs of anxiety include feelings of worry, restlessness, tense muscles, and sometimes a faster heartbeat. It's important to know that experiencing anxiety is a normal part of life, but when it becomes overwhelming or happens too often, it can be helpful to find ways to manage and cope with it.Understanding that your brain is trying to protect you, even if the threat isn't as immediate as it thinks, can help you manage anxiety.

Hypnotherapy provides a fantastic avenue for eliminating unnecessary and undesired emotions.

By combining Cognitive and Behavioural Hypnotherapy techniques I help people with Anxiety and Stress to:

Through our sessions, you will acquire the tools necessary to alter your emotional state, alleviate stress, and experience relief from anxiety – often in a short period.

You can learn techniques to calm your body and mind, like taking deep breaths, focusing on positive thoughts, or breaking down big tasks (like studying for a test) into smaller, more manageable steps.

This way, you can let your brain know that while the test is important, it's not an immediate danger, and you've got the situation under control.

Imposter Syndrome

People experiencing Imposter Syndrome often have low confidence in their abilities, do not feel worthy of success and often discount their successes, even though objective evidence suggests the contrary and they are perceived by others as successful people. It is common amongst high achievers.

Are you experiencing these symptoms:

  • Do you discount your successes?

  • Do you often dwell on negative thoughts about yourself?

  • Doubt yourself and your abilities?

  • Do you compare yourself negatively to others?

  • Do you fear being found out by others?

By combining Cognitive and Behavioural Hypnotherapy techniques I help people with Imposter Syndrome to:

  • Identify and become aware of negative self talk

  • Change negative, limiting self beliefs, emotions and behaviours

  • Develop valuable skills and techniques

  • Increase their confidence and self esteem

  • Realise their potential and successes

Social Anxiety

Social anxiety or social phobia is a fear of social situations such as speaking to people or meeting new people and being judged negatively by them.

The symptoms of social anxiety can occur in anticipation of social interactions, during social interactions and after social interactions.

Are You Experiencing These Symptoms?

  • Do social situations make you feel extremely nervous or uncomfortable?

  • Is the fear of being judged or scrutinised hindering your ability to engage with others?

  • Do you often worry excessively before social events, even if they are routine or casual?

By combining Cognitive and Behavioural Hypnotherapy techniques, I help people with Social Anxiety to:

  • Develop a strong sense of self-assurance and confidence

  • Overcome negative thought patterns that contribute to social anxiety

  • Cultivate effective coping mechanisms for challenging social situations

  • Foster a positive self-image and banish feelings of inadequacy

  • Embrace and enjoy social interactions without overwhelming stress

FAQ

  • Can I benefit from Hypnotherapy?

Everyone can be hypnotised, however it has been shown to help if you are open-minded, committed and motivated to achieving your desired goals. Hypnotic “trance” can be described as an increased ability to respond to positive suggestions normally alongside being relaxed and attentive to the suggested ideas.

It has been shown to help if you think positively, relax, and imagine the suggestions being given. Hypnotherapy is beneficial for a range of emotional, physical and behavioural issues and facilitates a deep exploration of the self.

  • Will I lose control during Hypnosis?

No. You will always remain in control during hypnosis. Equally no-one has ever been “stuck” in hypnosis. Hypnosis is not a state of mind control, you cannot be made to do anything against your will. It is similar to a daydreaming state. Hypnosis is therefore not a state of sleep or unconsciousness.

Hypnosis is completely safe when used in a professional and responsible way.

  • Is Hypnotherapy online the same as in person?

Yes! Hypnotherapy online is convenient, easy to access and just as effective as working face to face. Attending sessions from the comfort of your own home has been shown to enable people to feel more relaxed and thus contributed to enhanced outcomes.

You can access Microsoft Teams for free through by clicking on the secure link I will send you before the session, or you can use the Microsoft Teams app. However please get in touch if you need help installing the platform and I will guide you through the process.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Generally, I would recommend 4-6 sessions, however this may be shorter or longer depending on the nature of the issue you wish to address. Hypnotherapy for smoking cessation can be one session alone.

  • Can you guarantee results?

No. Hypnotherapy requires a collaborative approach, and the success of hypnosis requires your motivation, desire and commitment to change. I can promise you my skills, expertise and desire to help you reach your goals in the shortest time possible.

Client testimonials

  • I really appreciate Jo, she listened to me without judging. All in all, she took my “problems” (things I wanted to improve seriously) and always found a way, what we could improve and what coping mechanisms would help me best. Now, I can use those mechanisms and ideas for other problems as well and it helps, to know, you can take action in nearly every situation. On top, I loved the hypnosis! Her voice was really calm and the pictures with the stairs helped me to totally fall into it. I use the recordings she sent me and printed the coping list

    Victoria (Germany)

  • Absolutely amazing. Jo is a great listener and though I came to jo mainly regarding my trichotillomania, she helped me in other ways like dealing with stress and advice around business management. Jo also gave me some other useful skills about how to have effective difficult conversations. All round 10/10

    Lucy (London)
